History & Mission

The Van Andel Research Institute, based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, was formed in 1996 to support the developing life sciences industry in the state. The Van Andel Research Institute is specifically devoted to biomedical research.

In 2005, the State of Michigan awarded the Van Andel Research Institute and Grand Valley State University funds to develop a current good manufacturing practice (cGMP) facility to support the state’s emerging bioindustry. Grand River Aseptic Pharmaceutical Packaging (Grand River APP) is the culmination of this investment.
